Bertus Coops First Burgemester (1913)

Bertus Coops was born in Doesburg, Gelderland Province, Netherlands, on September 27 1874. He was the ninth child of Fredrik Coops (1833-1886) and Johanna Gerharda van der Meij (1836-1876).

Before having a definitive mayor, the mayor/Burgemeester of Bandung was initially ex officio done by the Assistant of Priangan Resident. On 1913 B. Coops was appointed as mayor of Bandung (Burgemeester). Bertus Coops act as the first mayor of Bandung and longest serving period has an important role in laying the foundation of development of Bandung.
